Land management goes full steam on a nationwide scale in the DPRK.
The Ministry of Land and Environment Protection is controlling and guiding in a scientific and detailed way the reforestation, river improvement, road repair and other undertakings for successfully carrying out the phased tasks in the land management sector set forth in the five-year plan.
It has updated the database on places and objects vulnerable to flood damage across the country by actively applying IT means in cooperation with relevant units. Now it is pushing forward the work to regularly analyze the changes of ecological environment including water and air quality and improve the environment.
It also pays attention to turning forest and river conservation into a mass drive.
It has ensured that forests were planted and managed in a scientific way while taking into consideration the economic effectiveness and symbiotic relations of trees, so as to promote the development of regions concerned and the local people’s living standards and prevent landslides. Under its guidance billions of saplings of 100-odd species have been produced and planted across the country. It is now endeavouring to create nearly 200 000 hectares of forests this year.
The ministry is also making preparations for promptly responding to emergency situation according to the well-knit forest fire and pest monitoring system established across the country.
Meanwhile, practical measures have been taken to improve all rivers and streams across the country to reduce the danger of flood damage, and considerable successes have been made in the work to renovate or repair the surface of tourist roads, highways and trunk roads and bridges across them and improve their technical conditions. Meanwhile, measures have been taken to repair and reinforce coastal protective facilities such as sea dikes and breakwaters or make them permanent.
In addition, special attention is paid to improving the capacity for purifying industrial and urban sewage to maintain clean living environment.
North and South Hamgyong provinces and other parts of the country have achieved successes in building and repairing tunnels and bridges and improving technical conditions of roads at various places in cooperation with relevant sectors and units.
