The Pyongyang Cosmetics Factory runs a mass literary group whose mission is to produce good literary works representing the labour and life of the employees.
The group was formed more than 10 years ago. Around that time the factory management decided to compile a collection of literary works created by the workers on the occasion of the factory’s birth anniversary.
At the news the employees vied with each other to produce good works.
Thus, many works of various kinds were produced beyond expectation. Scores of selected poems were posted on the notice board in the compound of the factory and the collection of literary works made.
This evoked an amazing response among the employees. They enjoyed reciting the poems such as Beautiful Galaxy , I Love My Factory and My Test Stamp which vividly described their feelings. The poems greatly inspired them with enthusiasm for production.
Later, the factory organized a group with workers with literary aptitudes and talent and invited renowned writers from the Central Committee of the Writers Union of Korea to the factory to teach the group members the basic literary theory and provide guidance over their works.
The formation of the group injected fresh liveliness into the factory. All showed interest in the activities of the group and competitively engaged in the creation of works dealing with what happened in their work and families.
The group members present their works in the artistic performances organized by factory on national anniversaries and other occasions and even make them public through publications.
Lyric poem Yearning and We Talk to Stars made by the members have been highly appreciated at national mass literary work prize contests and others. This has further stimulated the members and workers to create literary works.
“I can see the cultural attainment and enthusiasm for production of the employees rising with the active promotion of the mass-based literary creation. Their labour is full of poems and lyrics,” said Yun Pok Sil, an in-service authoress in charge of the group.
Now the factory employees are trying to embody the joy and worth of labour and their delight at creation and innovation in their works.
