At dawn on July 2, 1950 the torpedo-boat flotilla No 2 of the Korean People’s Army sank a US Navy cruiser Baltimore, which boasted itself of a “moving island on the sea”, with only 4 torpedo boats by using tactics of allurement and continuous dispersed drive. When it achieved such a great victory unprecedented in history of the world sea battle, the US imperialists clamoured that “only God knows it” and the world vied to comment that it was a “mystery of the DPRK” and it was “not a battle but a miracle.”
Balance of power of armed equipment between the two was 440:1.
According to the then world recognized naval battle manual, a joint operation of tens of planes and torpedo boats was needed to attack a large combined warships. The KPA destroyed and sank a gigantic combined heavy cruiser group only with one torpedo-boat flotilla.
Then, what was the secret of this miracle?
Issuing an order to attack the enemy’s group of warships, President Kim Il Sung taught in detail a tactical plan to defeat warships by saying that our naval crews have a political and ideological weapon more powerful than modern ones, now the group of the US aggressive army warships must be absentminded as they think that our flotilla will not match them, blustering is their weak point, and it is necessary to give a sudden attack to them with an offensive of partisan-style.
Ardent love for the country liberated by Kim Il Sung, strong sense of self-awareness not to tolerate again the fate of being an oppressed colonial slave, firm preparedness to sacrifice their lives to defend the country, the cradle of their true life and happiness, conviction of victory in the battle, courage, matchless pluck and gut provided by Kim Il Sung… They were the political and ideological weapon which was more powerful than modern weapons.
In addition to the great political and ideological weapon, the political, ideological and tactical superiority of the torpedo-boat flotilla No 2 which was armed with the brilliant tactics taught by Kim Il Sung was a mysterious secret to work such a miracle.
