The "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" has been enforced in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea since the beginning of this year.
The "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" is to put the basic material and cultural living standards of the people onto another high stage throughout the country within ten years' time by building modern regional-industry factories in 20 counties every year.
Necessary measures are taken to supply fund and materials to the 20 counties planned by the state this year to implement the regional development policy.
Candidate Academician, Professor and Doctor Song Tong Won, Researcher of the Academy of Social Sciences, says:
"At the consultative meeting for regional development project held on August 31, 2024, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un said the Party set forth a policy on building light-industry factories in regions to develop cities and counties, regional bases, and has pushed ahead with its implementation in every way, but this is not enough to provide the regional people across the country with a material and cultural life that would improve in a sustained way.
The Party's policy for regional development in the new era should not be confined to the construction of light-industry factories but should be a comprehensive policy dealing with public health, science and education. Only then can it make a contribution to the improvement of regional people’s material and cultural life and radically improve the efficiency of regional development, he added.
He also said it is the requirement of the Party Central Committee that those undertakings should be carried out on the highest level so that the regional people can enjoy substantial benefits from them."
It is a firm stand of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK to remove the differences between the towns and the countryside and between the capital and the regions as well as imbalance between regions in all aspects and build a civilized society.
The great years of making regional changes within ten years' time are passing by under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
