The Children’s Nutrition Research Institute under the Academy of Medical Sciences has developed a system by which to monitor and judge the growth and nutrition of the child population in real time, making it possible to put their nutritional care on a scientific basis.
The system helps assess children’s growth and nutritional conditions and take steps by measuring their height, weight, sitting height, girth and other indices and confirming the amount of nutritional supplies. It can save the labour and cost for fieldwork.
In order to develop the system, researchers visited different units to identify one index after another for improving the growth and nutritional care of children and helped relevant officials have a general understanding of the growth and nutritional conditions of the child population in different age groups and take relevant measures.
The system provides a guarantee for putting the nutritional care of children on a more scientific basis.
The institute has also worked out and distributed across the country the guides to children’s nutritional management in different categories, thus laying a foundation for scientific nutritional care.
