Agricultural sector takes scientific and innovative measures to attain grain production goal for this year

In hearty response to the decisions of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, agricultural officials in the DPRK work hard to draw up a scientific and innovative plan to increase grain production.
Officials of the Agricultural Commission and agricultural guidance organs at all levels are seriously discussing the ways for implementing the tasks facing the agricultural sector.
On the basis of the successes and experience gained in last year's farming, they are taking foresighted economic and practical measures to put all farming processes on a scientific basis and carry out the grain production plan for this year without fail.
Steps are also taken to keep farm machines on a normal track and maintain and repair them in a responsible manner, increase the proportion of mechanization in farming and update the farm machine sector.
Practical measures are taken to ensure the stability of farming by stepping up the irrigation projects for paddy and non-paddy fields affected by water shortage, drought and flooding and by maintaining and repairing already-built irrigation facilities, drainage canals and waterway structures.
Innovative proposals are being developed to increase the area of cropland by speeding up the construction of outer and inner networks of facilities of tideland and directing efforts to the restoration of farmland and land realignment.
Projects are being planned to increase the productivity of vegetables, livestock, fruits and industrial crops and thus contribute to improving the people's living standards.
Practical ways are under discussion to consolidate the material and technical foundations of the grain management sector.
