In December 1959, a vessel set sail in a Japan’s port for Chongjin Port in the DPRK. It was carrying the second batch of Koreans who were being repatriated to their motherland.
The returnees got good news that a woman gave birth to a healthy son en route to the motherland they had missed even in dreams.
The nursing mother and the baby were all the way under deep medical care. Upon their arrival, they were immediately taken to a hospital in Pyongyang. They became the object of others’ envy as they received the benefits of the socialist motherland for the first time.
Some days later, President Kim Il Sung (April 15, 1912-July 8, 1994) met the compatriots who had been repatriated as the second batch. He asked them how many hours they had travelled, how many people returned and whether there was any who fell ill.
When he came to know about the birth of the baby, he said with a broad smile on his face that the number of repatriated people increased by one and that good fortune had come to the country.
Upon hearing that the baby had not yet been given a name, he said that it would be named there and then, and named it “Kwigukdong” (repatriated baby).
The baby who was blessed by the great leader grew up healthily.
After he completed primary and secondary school and university courses, he became a teacher and then a Party official.
The President saw to it that a new house was provided to him free of charge and sent him a birthday spread and gifts.
He is now leading a happy life with his children.
