One day Chairman Kim Jong Il met a design official and examined the blueprint for a major construction project.

The designs for a large building with a total floor space of tens of thousands of square metres were very complicated.

While looking at the designs one by one, he suddenly pointed at a part of a design with a pencil and said it was different from what he had seen previously.

The official was surprised.

The design was the one the Chairman saw some months ago. At that time he said that he would look at it again in the future when he had time, telling the official to further study and revise the design to perfect it.

The design team had repeated discussions over the design and kept it intact as it had no special problem. After receiving the message that the Chairman would see the design again, the design official brought him its copy.

While examining the copy, the Chairman murmured that it was a puzzle and said that the details of that design part were different from those he had seen previously. Saying it seemed that someone had modified the design, he told the official to inquire into the matter.

During inquiry, the official found that the design was slightly different from the previous one. The cause was that as the details of the folded part of the design got blurred, the design was copied poorly.

The official was struck with admiration at the amazing memory of the Chairman who remembered the blueprint for the large building, the notion of which could not be had with just one look by ordinary people, and even the one line in a corner of the design he had seen months ago.

There are many other stories about the Chairman’s outstanding memory.

One year, President Kim Il Sung in a meeting with officials held before an important meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea asked them about some information.

At that time, no one could remember the accurate figures, but the Chairman immediately told him the exact figures.

Then, the President laughed cheerfully, saying that no one could have such an outstanding brain as the Chairman’s, that his knowledge storehouse contained everything and that there might be even the information about the “cat’s horn”.

There are limits to human memory, but the Chairman had an extraordinary memory. He remembered the names, ages and birthdays of the innumerable people he had met, the names and achievements of masters, big and small political events, scientific and technological inventions made by mankind and the monumental significance of every creation.

As to the secret of such memory, the Chairman said that the deep sense of heavy responsibility he assumed for the Workers’ Party of Korea and the revolution made him remember even one more thing accurately.
