Silicone sealants developed by the Silicone Technology Centre of the State Academy of Sciences are growing in popularity in the construction sector.
Until a few years ago, silicone sealants were entirely imported.
The ongoing new revolution in construction across the country, however, was crying out for putting an end to the import of such essential finishing materials.
Scientists and technicians of the centre worked hard to develop a silicone production technology as early as possible.
Through a number of tests, they confirmed a rational mixing ratio of raw materials and, on this basis, established a production line that turns out silicone sealants conforming to international standards.
These products are superior to the imported ones in technical specifications such as adhesion, tensile strength, elastic recovery and resistance to aging, as well as service life. They come in different colours—white, black, red, blue, grey and brown.
They are now widely used in major construction projects, namely for dwelling houses in the Hwasong area of Pyongyang, the Kalma coastal tourist area and regional-industry factories. They are receiving positive feedback and the demand for them is booming.
The centre is working on the development of functional silicone materials for moulding, preventing stone contamination, thermal conduction and other purposes.
