A meeting took place at the Korean Hall of Culture in Tokyo, Japan, on May 25 in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

Present there were Ho Jong Man, chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Pak Ku Ho, first vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and concurrently director of its Organizational Department, Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Pae Jin Gu, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and concurrently director general of its General Affairs Department, Jo Il Yon, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Song Kun Hak, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and concurrently director of its Education Department, So Chung On, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and concurrently director of its Department for International Affairs, Kang Chu Ryon, vice-chairwoman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and concurrently chairwoman of the Central Standing Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan, Ri Myong Yu, chairman of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon, Pak Chung U, chairman of the Korean Federation of Workers in Commerce in Japan, and Hang Tong Song, rector of Korea University.

On hand were advisors and directors of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, school inspectors, the director of the Research Institute on History of Korean Residents in Japan, chairpersons of Chongryon headquarters in the Kanto area, leading officials of major central organizations of Chongryon and its affiliates and compatriots of various strata.

The national anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was played at the meeting.

First Vice-Chairman Pak Ku Ho courteously conveyed the letter "Let Us Write a New Great Chapter in the History of the Movement of Koreans in Japan by Carrying Forward the Patriotic Spirit of the Founder Generation" sent by the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un to the Chongryon officials and other Koreans in Japan on the occasion of the 70th founding anniversary of Chongryon.

Chairman Ho Jong Man made a report at the meeting.

He highly praised the undying exploits of the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, the pioneer of the overseas compatriots' movement in the era of independence, the founder of Chongryon and the saviour of Koreans in Japan.

He described the letter sent by the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un to the Chongryon officials and other Koreans in Japan on the occasion of the 70th founding anniversary of Chongryon as a banner of victory and a bright blueprint for making a great new history of the movement of Koreans in Japan by inheriting the traditions of loyalty, unity and love for the country and nation created by the founder generation of Chongryon.

With the coming decade till its 80th founding anniversary set as a new struggle period, Chongryon will achieve substantial progress in developing itself into a compatriots-first organization which serves them faithfully, true to the important letter of the respected Marshal, he noted.

Vice-Chairman Nam Sung U read out a letter to the respected Marshal from the Chongryon Central Standing Committee.

At the end of the meeting, the participants watched a video recording congratulations sent by the organizations in the homeland and another video produced in commemoration of Chongryon’s 70th anniversary "Seventy years of indomitability, in defence of original idea and spirit".
