Every region in the DPRK directs considerable efforts to supplying raw materials needed for the production of the newly-built regional-industry factories.
South Hwanghae Province is expanding the cultivation area of the Ongjin reed.
It is growing the species of reed in tens of hectares of fields in Kangnyong County and Haeju City to supply raw materials needed for paper production. In particular, it is increasing the per-hectare yield of the new species whose advantages have been proved in practice, by manuring and tending it well.
North Phyongan Province’s Chonma County has newly created hundreds of hectares of oil-bearing forests by planting hundreds of thousands of pine nut and black walnut trees this year. Earlier, it had planted thousands of hectares of oil-bearing forests.
Kapsan County of Ryanggang Province succeeded in cultivating a high-yielding species of groundnut. This year it has encouraged all farms in the region to grow groundnuts while expanding the area of cultivating yellow horn.
Meanwhile, Kyongsong County of North Hamgyong Province strives to manure and cultivate the Kyongsong matrimony vine in a scientific way.
The fruits of the species of the matrimony vine are famous for their high medicinal efficacy as compared with their counterparts in other regions. The county has extensively raised the species on idle lands and manured and tended them in a scientific and technical way so as to increase the production of its fruits.
As a result, the industrial establishments and neighbourhood units in the county have grown the vines while maintaining a high rate of their survival. The county is also propelling the work to increase the variety of processed fruits of matrimony vine in a far-sighted way.
Jagang Province’s Rangnim County strives to solve the problem of raw materials for the production of sugar.
The county is widely cultivating sugar beet with high sugar content and productivity after it confirmed the possibility of its stable growth even under the weather conditions in the northern highlands.
The Naejung Farm in Yomju County, North Phyongan Province has begun in March to produce columnar pear tree saplings on a large scale by tissue culture and made progress in the sapling production of sweet potato, new species of grape, peach and plum by tissue culture.
