On the bank of the Pothong River in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, there stands the Monument to the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War, a People’s Prize winner, with the main theme sculpture “Victory.”
The pedestal is 7 metres high and the statue 20 metres high.
The Korean war ignited by the US imperialists in the early 1950s was an all-out war between the DPRK, only two years old, and the haughty US imperialists which had grown fat on aggression and pillage. It was, in fact, a hard-fought war that could be likened to a fight between a bare-handed man and brigandish robbers, a confrontation between a rifle and an atomic bomb.
However, the DPRK emerged victorious in the war unprecedented in the world history of war. During the war the country grew much stronger.
The sculpture is a grand monument symbolizing the proud victory and matchless heroism the Korean people won and displayed in the Fatherland Liberation War under the outstanding leadership of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung , and demonstrating the staunch spirit of the DPRK winning only victories century after century.
The sculpture was built in July 1993 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. The pedestal was inscribed with the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un ’s autograph “Honour to the Great Era” in gold letters in July 2013.
It depicts a Korean People’s Army soldier holding high the national flag which was firmly defended throughout the hard-fought war and inspires the Korean people to a new victory.
In the present new era of comprehensive national prosperity, when many significant events unprecedented in history are being brought about one after another, the sculpture serves as an eternal symbol of the DPRK which gives its people the greatest pride and confidence in sure victory.
