When the residents in the Gaza Strip are on the verge of extinction owing to the moves of the US and Israel, some Western countries have expressed their willingness to recognize the State of Palestine, drawing attention.

On July 24, France announced that it would officially recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly to be held in September.

Later the United Kingdom, Canada and Finland expressed their intention to recognize Palestine as an independent state, though conditionally, and such current continues to expand.

It can be said that this is a drastic change in the stand of the Western countries which have sided with Israel for a long time, to toe the US line in dealing with the issue of Palestine.

More than 140 UN member states have recognized Palestine as a state in support of the “two-state solution” option but the G-7 and most of the EU members have so far turned away their faces from it.

With regard to the present crisis in the Gaza Strip, the West has followed the US line by giving a green light to the Zionists’ moves to exterminate Palestinians on the pretext of Israel’s unilateral “right to self-defence”.

Then, did the sudden change in these countries’ approach come out of the humanity, charity and sense of justice of the “Western gentlemen”?

This is not true.

Developments show that the Western countries are in a fix in which they cannot blindly support the US and Israel any longer in settling the Middle East crisis.

As Israel persists in its unethical massacre, enforcing its policy on reducing the Gaza Strip to ashes, occupying it permanently and exterminating the Palestinians in disregard of international law and the humanitarian principle, the international community is raising their voice of censure and denunciation for the chieftain and wire-pullers day by day.

In particular, the US has persistently exercised its veto over the recognition of Palestine as a full-fledged UN member state and said that it would have to suspend the payment of its contribution to the UN if Palestine acquires the same rights as member states, while egging on Israel in its scheme to exterminate Palestinians. This sparks the indignation of the world peoples.

Witnessing the present wretched situation in the Gaza Strip, in which the whole zone has been reduced into a “hell on the ground” and all the survivors are little short of “walking corpses,” the international community is censuring not only the US and Israel but also the Western countries which assume the attitude of onlookers to the worst humanitarian crisis, blindly following them.

The Western countries are afraid that if they blindly follow the US and Israel, they may be in the dock of the international court together with them. At present they find it difficult to stay in power as internal resentment is growing against their governments which are turning away their faces from the inhumane crimes in the Gaza Strip. The prevailing situation forced the authorities of the Western countries to no longer ignore the Palestinian issue.

Although it is an abrupt change made according to the political interests of the Western politicians like chameleons, the change in the pro-US Western camp once again highlights at a new angle that the US and Israel are spiralled into the ever-deepening international isolation and that a big breach is being made in the US-led Western alliance.

Branding the Western countries’ stand as a “hasty decision,” the alarmed US and Israel assert vehemently that no matter what they may say, nothing would change.

The present reality clearly shows that the more desperately the US and Israel try to deprive the Palestinian people of their national right to build an independent and sovereign state, the further the international efforts will be strengthened to promote the founding of the State of Palestine and that the evil forces will bring earlier their fall of their own accord.

No force on earth can stop the wheel of history towards independence and justice.
