Today when science and technology promote the social development as the engine, Korean young people are fully displaying their might as the pioneers and forerunners of modern science and technology.

Dr. Kim Il Nam, Teacher of the Scientific Research Department of Kim Chaek University of Technology, is a scientist in his 30s who played a core role in establishing the process of producing pig iron by energy-saving oxygen-blast furnace. He buckled down to solving scientific and technological problems for making the metallurgical industry Juche-based over ten years ago.

In those days, he solved sci-tech problems arising in different systems of the energy-saving oxygen-blast furnace by pooling efforts with officials, scientists and technicians of Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex and a number of scientific research institutions, contributing to lowering norm of materials consumption per ton of pig iron and improving its quality.

It is his theory that the young scientists should shoulder all the burdens in the van.

Kim Chang Il, Section Chief of the Modernization Institute under the State Academy of Sciences, is a scientist who played a distinguished role in putting the large-scale greenhouse farms on a modern basis.

He has devoted all his wisdom, talent and passion to developing the industrial automation program development tools of Korean style that can compete with the world. In those days, he completely localized the development environment of the industrial information system and, on this basis, played a leading role in establishing the greenhouse environment and nutrient solution supply control system and the vegetable growth interpretation system which can optimize the vegetable growing environment at the Jungphyong and Ryonpho greenhouse farms and the Kangdong General Greenhouse Farm. As a result, he reduced the time spent in establishing the computer integrated manufacture system to a fifth as against before and contributed to lowering the production cost and increasing the vegetable output considerably while saving a lot of manpower for vegetable cultivation.

It is his resolve to achieve world-level scientific and technological successes staking the dignity of the Korean youth.

Kim Tae Song, Researcher of the Hi-Tech Products Development Institute of the Pyongyang College of Medical Sciences, is a promising scientist in his 20s who manufactured a new air disinfectant by using wormwood essential oil and established the method of disinfection by it.

He graduated from the Faculty of Koryo Medicine of the Pyongyang College of Medical Sciences and its postgraduate course and became a teacher of the college. But he changed his career to a researcher and took of his own accord the task of developing air disinfectant by using wormwood abundant in our country.

After laborious pursuit and speculation, he developed a new type of air disinfectant which overcame the shortcomings of air disinfecting methods.

He is not a specialist in epidemic prevention and pharmacology. Whenever people ask him about the key to his success, he tells them that science is studied with pure conscience before knowledge and talent.
