Lake Suphung is called a “sea in the mountain.” Across the lake a new transport service is in place with cargo vessels Jinhung carrying cement for housing construction in the countryside.
In February 2024 when the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un announced the start of the gigantic regional-industry revolution, he gave some officials a task to study the feasibility of forming a fleet of cargo ships to transport cement to the counties around the lake.
Later he took measures to form a fleet of cargo vessels for rapidly transporting cement for rural construction to the mountainous counties around the lake and solved the problems arising in the building and operation of the vessels.
In December 2024 a launching ceremony of the fleet consisting of the modern cargo vessels and dredger was held and the cargo vessels started to transport cement to the relevant areas.
The vessels are designed to offload cement at any locations by means of conveying board despite changing water levels caused by seasonal change and anchor in any place near a construction site.
When they are moored at relevant places, a high-performance hydraulic loader and trucks mount them to discharge hundreds of tons of cement.
Pyoktong County, North Phyongan Province is one of the counties which greatly benefit from the transport service. Previously, it had to transport building materials by road from a place hundreds of kilometres away. But after the service began, it can transport the materials close to construction sites in a short span of time.
