At present the earth is indiscriminately harassed by frequent spells of heatwave, drought, flood, hurricane and other extreme weather patterns.
This year, too, different parts of the world feel the growing impact of global warming, suffering huge human and material losses from heavy rains and floods.
The increasing severity of the climate change urgently requires all to possess first aid knowledge and capabilities needed for saving lives.
As an essential humanitarian activity, the first aid is a basic aid intended to save and attend those who suddenly fall ill or get injured till medical assistance can reach.
Every year since 2000, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which plays a leading role in education and service of first aid over the world, honours first aid on the second Saturday of September. On the occasion of the day, the IFRC and national societies conduct a range of activities to raise public awareness of how first aid can save lives, especially in situations of crisis.
The DPRK Red Cross Society also focuses on first aid service and dissemination of such knowledge and honours the day by conducting activities to give more publicity to first aid knowledge and help people develop their capability.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, bandaging, recovery position, evacuation of patients and other first-aid methods in different situations are being disseminated. Publicity activities focus on how to apply those methods in various conditions and environments to cope with the worsening global abnormal climate and public health crisis.
This year’s World First Aid Day theme is “First Aid and Climate Change.”
