On October 17, 1926 a number of young Koreans met at the residence of Kim Si U, the superintendent of Hwasong Uisuk School in Huadian County, Jilin Province, China.
They were there to attend a meeting to form a genuine revolutionary organization, the first of its kind in Korea.
At the meeting the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung made a rallying speech, titled, Let Us Overthrow Imperialism and he proposed naming the organization to be formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union ( DIU ).
Then he noted that the formation of the DIU is a declaration of a decisive battle to destroy Japanese imperialism, and of confrontation with imperialism worldwide.
He laid out a policy of action for the organization and gave each of its members the printed rules of the union.
At the meeting he said: Our road of struggle will not be smooth; many obstacles and difficulties, seemingly impossible to break through, will stand in our way. We ardent young men and women of the DIU must overcome all these obstacles and trials with a strong will and revolutionary fighting spirit, overthrow piratical Japanese imperialism and achieve Korea’s independence.
Cha Kwang Su, a member of the DIU, gave a piece of silk embroidered with a red star to each of the members who were to be dispatched to different regions on order from Kim Il Sung , saying that the red star on the cloth symbolizes Hanbyol ( Kim Il Sung ), the white colour represents our pure mind to support him faithfully and calling on them to follow the road of the revolution to the end feeling the silk cloth in their bosom, even though they might face severe hardships.
The DIU members defended Kim Il Sung at the cost of their lives and readily dedicated their youth and lives on the road of the revolution, holding him in high esteem as the centre of unity and leadership.
After its formation the DIU trained broad sections of workers, peasants, youth and students as revolutionaries and greatly contributed to laying the mass foundations of the Korean revolution and propelling forward the overall revolution.
