There was a peculiar stand in the light industrial goods exhibition held in October.
The stand was featured by a wide range of table ornaments, ornamental frames, flower vases and flower baskets made with dried flowers such as rose, cockscomb, globe amaranth, and even some grains like sorghum and barley.
“Dried flowers look like living plants. They are as beautiful as fresh flowers and make life more emotional as they are in bloom all year round,” said a woman visitor.
These unfading flowers were presented by the dried flower manufactory under the Central Botanical Garden.
The manufacturers make not only dried flowers but various other goods by using plant leaves, stems, fruits, seeds, roots and others.
It was about ten years ago when they started the research into dried flowers.
While working on a project to turn plants abundant in the country into dried ones, they developed and introduced a technique of drying rose and other plant materials and carried out the research to prevent damage from moisture and ultraviolet rays, doubling the preservation period of dried flowers.
On this basis, they work to increase the variety of the products so as to suit the customers’ ages, gender, tastes and interests, and improve their ornamental effect.
The latest hits include the products made with petals and grain ears, which are in increasing demand for their vivid colours and unique touch of natural beauty.
Their paper “Drying features of plant materials and their application in the manufacturing of various dried flowers” was highly appreciated at the 38th national sci-tech festival held this year.
“We will try our best to make more and better products in a more diverse way in order to contribute to the people’s cultural and emotional life,” says Ri Hyong Sik, manager of the manufactory.
