Kim Myong Song living in Rangnang-dong No. 3, Rangnang District of Pyongyang is an honorary smelter of the Chollima Steel Complex, a leading large base of the metallurgical industry in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
He was born and grew up in Chollima District of the city of Nampho where the complex is located.
His father and brothers were all born there and worked as smelters.
Though he is well over 70, he calls at the complex once a month with a lot of scrap iron and aid materials. He arouses the smelters working in a sweat before the ultra high power electric furnace to the increased production of iron and steel, telling them stories about their fathers' generation who made strenuous efforts to produce even a ton of iron and steel more.
Actually, he is a demobilized officer who served in the army for tens of years and an honoured disabled soldier who devoted his all without hesitation to defend the country. Nobody will blame him for living in peace.
Kim Myong Song, however, volunteered to collect and carry scrap iron and prepare aid materials. He has collected scrap iron, big or small, and carried it to the complex for over 10 years.
He would feel great pleasure and happiness whenever the scrap iron he collected, though little, was fed to the ultra high power electric furnace.
He regards the appellation of honorary smelter as the request to do more work for the country.
Saying there may be senility in human body but not in the mind for the country, he is still leaving indelible traces in his life.
It is his mind that if he claims a reward for devoting his blood and sweat to the country in the past and thinks he did enough for the country, he cannot be called a proud citizen of this country.
