O Mun Chol, researcher of the otolaryngeal cervical tumour research section of the Tumour Institute of the Academy of Medical Sciences, is respected by patients for his excellent skills for tumour surgery.
He has made valuable achievements conducive to the development of medical sciences and technology of the country, including the study for introducing sheath of thyroid gland extraction, which has been widely studied and introduced worldwide, while treating various kinds of head and neck tumours including thyroid tumour, laryngeal cancer, submandibular gland and parotid adenoma.
Once a woman in Ryonggang County, Nampho Municipality, was admitted to hospital with a large thyroid cancer.
Her condition was so serious that it seemed difficult to perform a surgery. The bronchus was severely deflected, with vascular and nerve tissues knitting together.
Surgery should be performed, but a mistake, however trifling, could lead to irreparable consequences.
He racked his brains to find a reasonable approach. Finally, he successfully performed the operation.
Afterwards, he observed the conditions of the patient and took appropriate measures. He also obtained medicines for the patient.
In addition, he treated patients with rare symptoms and very high surgical risk, including those with cervical calcified tumour and lateral cervical giant hemangioma.
Many people, who have been treated by him, express gratitude to him.
