A two-year-old child named Ho Ye Yon was carried to the South Phyongan Provincial Children’s Hospital on October 2 last year.
It seemed almost impossible to save the child in a coma with second- to third-degree burns on half of her body.
However, Won Song Hui, director of the hospital, and other medical workers buckled down to her treatment, saying that if a high level of medical skill is supported by sincere devotion, they can save her.
A team was organized consisting of Ri Pong Chun, deputy-director in charge of technical affairs, doctor Ri Son Nam and other competent medical workers.
They took measures to relieve shock and prevent poisoning.
The girl, who was believed to die within a day, regained consciousness after 12 days.
Subsequently, skin grafting was performed.
In total, 1 400 mL of blood was transfused into the daughter of an ordinary worker on 15 occasions and more than 60 medical workers donated 5 800 square centimetres of skin.
She left the hospital in good health after 47 days.
This is not all.
This year alone, the medical workers of the hospital saved more than 10 children with congenital heart diseases and other most serious cases.
