A new history of regional transformation has opened in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea which is powerfully implementing the regional development policy of the new era to make the capital city envy regions within ten years.

Many things have been changed in the course of implementing the regional development policy for two years.

Solid foundations for independent development were laid in the regions equivalent to one tenth of the country in 2024, the first year for implementing the policy, and in the regions to one fifth of the country in 2025, thus completely transforming the backward regional economic foundation and bringing about many changes in the life of the people.

The regional industry has developed as much as the central one and its competitive edge is increasing day by day, which changes the understanding of the regions.

The regional development policy confined to the construction of regional-industry factories at the time of its adoption was expanded in depth into a comprehensive policy embracing public health, science and culture.

In 2024 regional-industry factories were built in 20 cities and counties but in 2025 public health facilities and leisure complexes built in different regions on a trial basis along with similar factories.

This year, the third year of implementing the policy, advanced public health facilities and comprehensive leisure complexes as well as regional-industry factories are being built in 20 regions of the country.

This clearly shows the vigorous implementation of the policy expanding in depth and the development potential of the state growing year by year.

Groundbreaking ceremonies of the projects for implementing the regional development policy in 2026 took place in succession with that in Unnyul County of South Hwanghae Province held on January 29 as the start.

To hold groundbreaking ceremonies of the regional development policy projects at the beginning of the year has become the first and unbreakable working process of great significance for the Party and the state, the provinces, cities and counties across the country.

Proclaiming inauguration in the year of groundbreaking is the standard speed of realizing our ideals.

At the end of this year, public health facilities and leisure complexes as well as regional-industry factories will be surely built in 20 regions including Unnyul County of South Hwanghae Province, transforming nearly one third of the cities and counties throughout the country.
