The common spruce forest is located 700 metres above sea level, which is three kilometres southwest of the seat of Chonjang-ri, Sijung County, Jagang Province.
The forest was an artificial one created by transplanting five-year-old saplings in 1942.
The area covers 2.6 hectares with more than 400 trees.
The growth state of the trees is very good.
The tallest tree is 42 metres high, and 3.3 metres and about 3.1 metres round at the root collar and the chest height, respectively. And the shortest tree is 25 metres high, and 1.7 metres and about 1.4 metres round at the root collar and the chest height, respectively.
The crown is of conical shape, and almost all the branches droop to form a peculiar shape. Cones are 20-30cm long and 3-4cm wide, which are characterized by an oval shape and a particularly large size.
The common spruce forest in Sijung was registered as a living monument as it is of significance in the study of tree species of forest.
