President Kim Il Sung solved all the problems arising in the revolution and construction to meet the interests of the Korean people and as required by the actual situation of the country throughout his revolutionary career.
In September 1945, shortly after Korea’s liberation, he acquainted himself with the situation of the country, saying to officials that the harsh rule of Japanese imperialism has come to an end and the Korean people have regained freedom and hope and this enables them to create a new life, free and happy, as the masters of the country.
Officials told him that amid hectic discussions about what kind of government should be built in liberated Korea, some people are adamant about their own claims while calling for the restoration of a feudal government or advocating republicanism.
After hearing them out, Comrade Kim Il Sung said: We are now faced with tasks to indicate to the broad masses of the people the right path liberated Korea should follow and to dynamically organize and mobilize them to build a new Korea.
He added: Liberated Korea must never restore the feudal system or set up a bourgeois system as some people insist; it must not take the path towards socialism at once, either. The character of the Korean revolution at the present stage, therefore, is still an anti-imperialist, anti-feudal democratic revolution; in the immediate future we must liquidate the remnants of Japanese imperialism and feudalism and carry out the revolutionary task for achieving the country’s democratic development. The path which Korea should take at the stage of the anti-imperialist, anti-feudal democratic revolution is a path towards progressive democracy, and the state which should be set up in the liberated country is a democratic, independent and sovereign state. This is our line of nation-building; it is also the way the people desire to take.
This nation-building line served as a banner that enabled the Korean people to build a prosperous, independent and sovereign state by their own efforts.
