An increasing number of holidaymakers are visiting the Onpho Working People’s Holiday Camp in Kyongsong County, North Hamgyong Province.

The camp is located near midstream of the Onpho Stream, about 12 kilometres northwest of the Kyongsong Railway Station.

From of old, the area has been known as a scenic spot on the east coast of Korea as it has the Onpho hot spring good for health, thickly wooded mountains and clear water of the Onpho Stream.

It had long been used as a holiday camp for the people, and now it has been turned into a spa resort peculiar to the mountainous area.

When visiting the camp in July a few years ago, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un unfolded a plan to remodel it into a monumental edifice representing the spa culture of the country and gave meticulous guidance over the whole course of the project.

In March last year he visited the construction site to indicate the orientation and ways for successfully completing the project, including those of further improving the service conditions and the treatment environment level so that the hot spring therapy can contribute to the promotion of the people’s health and their enjoyment of civilization, of expanding the sphere and space of diverse cultural life by making the most of the topographical features of the picturesque mountainous area and of making full preparations so that it can start its operation at the same time as the completion of the project.

He also set it as an important principle in the construction of the Onpho resort to well preserve the natural environment, so as to make its landscape contribute to the promotion of the people’s health and their emotional life.

Thanks to his painstaking efforts and devotion, the area has been turned into a comprehensive service base for recreation and recuperation in which all the elements of architecture are in good harmony with the natural environment and all the service conditions are provided at a high level.

Looking round the holiday camp inaugurated in January, he expressed great satisfaction all along and paid close attention lest there would be shortcomings in the services for the working people.

When he received a report on the completion of the preparations for the opening of the camp in February, he took a measure to ensure that labour innovators in the major production sectors, including metallurgical, chemical, electric power and coal-mining industries, and in the agricultural sector have a good time at the camp.

Many working people have spent pleasant days there since the first-term holidaymakers arrived at the camp on February 25.
