Throughout his revolutionary career President Kim Il Sung rendered unsparing support and assistance to the people of newly independent countries.
The people of Sri Lanka founded a republic in May 1972 after smashing the moves of the imperialists and reactionaries at home and turned out in the struggle to create a new life.
The country inherited a weak industrial foundation, and it could not ensure self-sufficiency even in food supply, so it had to import foods from other countries. In pursuit of a solution, the prime minister of the country made up his mind to send his son, an advisor to the government’s economic planning department, to President Kim Il Sung for help.
When the son met President Kim Il Sung , he told the latter about the troubles facing his country and his father’s request for help.
Comrade Kim Il Sung said: The prime minister’s request is an expression of his great expectations of us. We’d like to help you with all sincerity. We can assist you with the irrigation work as you fare badly in agriculture for lack of water. If you ask, we will send you relevant technicians and such equipment as pumping facilities.
The Sri Lankan was so delighted. The President added: If necessary, we will offer you tractors and trailer farm machines; our tractors operated poorly in hot regions in the past, but they have been improved now and they will probably run well; and you’d better use those machines in farming.
Voices of respect for and gratitude to him, who offered material and spiritual assistance to building new society, were heard from different parts of the world.
Other peoples in Asia, Africa and Latin America experienced the worth and joy of creating a new life under the selfless assistance of the President. That is why they are revering him as the benevolent father of mankind.
