Mt Paektu, which had been venerated by the Korean people generation after generation, became the beacon of their life and hope and their sacred mountain of the revolution after General Kim Il Sung, a legendary hero, came there to lead the anti-Japanese war.

In the dark period of Korea’s ruin due to the Japanese imperialists’ military occupation, he embarked on the road of the revolution in his early teens. After declaring an all-people resistance against the aggressors, he continued to wage bloody battles in the primitive forests of Mt Paektu.

As the General was headquartered in the mountain to save the destiny of the Korean people and shoulder the future of their country, they felt inclined towards the sacred mountain of the revolution.

He rallied the people under the banner of independence and led them, thus achieving the historic cause of national liberation.

That is why Jo Ki Chon, a well-known revolutionary poet of the DPRK, wrote the first full-length epic “Mt Paektu” after national liberation to highly praise the greatest-ever exploits of the General.

Since the study tour of Mt Paektu began in the 1950s, many people have toured the revolutionary battle sites in the Mt Paektu area to learn the indomitable spirit of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters.

Among the revolutionary battle sites in the area associated with the immortal history of resistance there is the Paektusan Secret Camp which was restored to its original state and opened in the 1980s.

In the secret camp there are the Headquarters log cabin where General Kim Il Sung stayed, Chairman Kim Jong Il’s birthplace, the sites of the guerrillas’ quarters, slogan-bearing trees and others.

While looking round the revolutionary battle sites in the area in December 2019, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that it is the consistent determination and will of the Workers’ Party of Korea to permanently defend and carry forward the glorious revolutionary traditions which took root in Mt Paektu and thus overcome the difficult situation and open up the way of the revolution by dint of the indomitable offensive idea based on those great traditions and indicated the ways for educating all the Party members and other working people in the revolutionary traditions of Paektu and thoroughly embodying them in all fields of social life.

With it as an occasion, the nationwide enthusiasm for the study tour of the revolutionary battle sites in the area has been further heightened, and the noble and lofty spirit displayed by the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters serve as the ideological and spiritual strength of the people in the struggle for a new victory in the overall development of socialism.
