The past five years have been recorded as a period when the appearance of the countryside of the DPRK has been radically changed.
The Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea in January 2021 stressed the need to turn the countryside into a rich, modern and civilized one.
The Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee in December that year set forth the programme of the rural revolution in the new era for successfully carrying out the Party’s plan for rural construction by vigorously accelerating the development of rural communities.
The meeting stressed that targets to be attained in the Korean-style rural development are to enhance the level of ideological awareness of agricultural workers, make a rapid development of agricultural productivity and bring about a fundamental change in the living environment of the countryside.
The Sixth and Seventh plenary meetings of the Eighth Party Central Committee and other important meetings clarified the ways for ushering in a new era of socialist rural development.
According to the blueprint for rural development advanced by the Party, a new era of changing countryside has been unfolded across the country.
More than 113 000 dwelling houses have been built in over 1 860 villages of 500-odd farms throughout the country in the past four years.
In addition, many farms have brought about high yields annually.
The work to readjust, reinforce and perfect the irrigation system of the country was pushed forward dynamically. A typical example was the successful completion of the project for desalinating Lake Kangnyong. And the first- and second-stage modernization projects of the Kumsong Tractor Factory were completed.
In February this year the Samgwang Livestock Farm under the North Phyongan Provincial Rural Economy Committee was built as a model of modern rural community and livestock farming base, clearly showing the development of the socialist countryside.
