Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army, oversaw a joint live-fire demonstration drill staged  by the three services of the KPA to celebrate its 85th anniversary.

He arrived at the airport on the eastern front at 10 am and was greeted by KPA Vice Marshal Hwang Pyong So, director of the KPA General Political Bureau, KPA Vice Marshal Ri Myong Su, chief of the KPA General Staff, and Army General Pak Yong Sik, minister of the People’s Armed Forces.

He reviewed the participating navy and air and anti-aircraft forces’ troops and elite frontline artillery force.

At the observation post he was briefed on the drill plan before giving an order to start the drill.

Submarines rapidly went underwater to launch torpedoes at simulated enemy vessels, while fighter jets and bombers showered bombs at the targets.

More than 300 large-calibre self-propelled artillery vehicles that lined up along a few-kilometre-long seaside fired several rounds of salvo.

The valiant artillerymen are thrillingly good at shooting, destroying the targets mercilessly and accurately, he said, adding they demonstrated what the strike by the powerful artillery force that will respond to the hostile elements only with merciless punishment is like.

He expressed great satisfaction over the successful drill, the largest ever in history and a major celebration of Army Day, and highly praised the participating service personnel.

He extended warm congratulations to all the People’s Army soldiers upon Army Day, saying the revolutionary armed forces have traversed along the road of victory for the past 85 years, raising its profile as an invincible army equipped with advanced means of offensive and as a revolutionary army of the Party that performs distinguished services in national defence and building of a thriving nation.

There are many countries and armies in the world, but nowhere is such a revolutionary force as the People’s Army which has adorned its decades-long history only with victory still flying the red flag held up in the early period of the revolution, despite all challenges, he said. The KPA’s indomitable spiritual strength and unrivalled combat capability owe much to the seasoned leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.

The joint live-fire demonstration drill showed again that the People’s Army dedicated to defending the leader to the death would guard the Supreme Leader by becoming ten million rifles and bombs and shower a ruthless and punitive fire on the US and its nasty lackeys, which are bent on hurting the Korean socialist system through toughest sanctions and pressure, thus reducing the heartlands of the heinous enemies to their graves.
