Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, supervised the test-fire of a new-type tactical guided weapon conducted by the Academy of Defence Science on April 17.

As he looked round the weapon, the Supreme Leader was briefed on the composition of the weapon system and its operation mode by relevant officials of the academy.

The development of the weapon system is an event of very enormous significance in increasing the combat capability of the People's Army, he said, adding it is a very good thing that the national defence science sector is pressing ahead with the development of Korean-style weapon system embodying the four elements in its dynamic efforts for attaining the core research goals set forth by the Party at the Eighth Conference of Munitions Industry.

The test-fire performed in various methods of firing according to different targets fully verified the design indexes of the tactical guided weapon that is highly appreciated for the unique mode of guiding flight and the loading of a powerful warhead.

After watching the power of the new weapon, the Supreme Leader said that Korean defence scientists and munitions workers have done another great work in boosting the country's defence capabilities, that he was always struck with admiration at them in the period of developing strategic weapons and that Korean scientists, technicians and workers are great as ever as they can make any weapon when they are determined to do.

He expressed great satisfaction with the result of the test-fire, saying that today’s success is another clear manifestation of the validity of Party policy of attaching importance to defence science and technology and the might of the independent defence industry.

He set the phased and strategic goals to be attained for keeping munitions production going on and putting defence science and technology on the cutting-edge level and specified the tasks and ways to achieve them.
