Ri Kyong Yun’s family in the mid-16th century enjoyed a reputation as his three sons and younger brother Ri Yong Yun who earned fame as the pioneer of a new method of portrayal in the world of artists were all good at paintings and writings.
He was good at painting portraits and landscapes. Remarkable was the fact that he painted portraits against landscapes and drew landscapes with persons in the nature so as to make a good harmony of man and nature.
An old record says that his paintings had simple yet artistic effects with elegance and that they had new characteristics though they were painted in an old fashion and looked natural thanks to the sophisticated art of drawing.
His paintings Bamboo and Crane, Pine Tree and Crane and others have been handed down to this day.
