Today is World TB Day.
On this occasion, the World Health Organization is calling on the countries across the world to take practical measures to wipe out TB, under the theme of “It’s time!”
According to the national strategic plan for TB control 2018-2021, the DPRK is taking proactive measures for diagnosing and treating TB efficiently in order to stamp it out.
It directs efforts to improving the TB medical service and the TB disease surveillance system with the main emphasis on enhancing the capability and quality of TB diagnostic network and ambulatory treatment.
Besides, it takes measures to effectively manage drug sensitive TB and expand the management of drug-resistant TB. It also gives wide publicity to help people have a correct understanding of TB, get rid of the social stigma attached to TB, and understand it correctly.
Section doctors actively conduct the work to detect TB patients through regular sick-calls at homes and TB diagnosis in such areas as coal and other mines where TB may break out. The directly observed treatment strategy (DOTS) is being applied to the newly-registered TB patients, ensuring the rate of treatment up to 85%.
The 2015-2016 nationwide TB survey was successfully implemented to set new baseline values for the analysis of TB epidemiology.
The State is increasing its budget to lay a sufficient financial and technical guarantee for TB control and strengthening social support to TB patients under treatment.
Recently, the Korea Fund against TB & Malaria (KFTM) is effectively coordinating cooperation with individuals, governments, NGOs and international organizations who strive to eliminate TB and thus rendering positive support to TB control at home.
