There is a woman working in the Central Botanical Garden who has been cultivating magnolia, the national flower of the DPRK, for over 50 years since her maidenhood at the age of 18.
She is Kim Sun Hui, an arboretum workteam leader, who enjoys public respect as “magnolia workteam leader”.
She has logbooks of tens of volumes in which she, throughout her life, has recorded the collection of magnolia seed, its breeding, manuring and cultivation methods, and its planting and cultivation by the units across the country.
Thanks to her patriotic devotion, hundreds of thousands of magnolia buds bring into full bloom along the streets and in villages across the country in every May and June.
