Kim Jong Il
was born in the Paektusan Secret Camp on February 16, Juche 31(1942), when an anti-Japanese armed struggle was waged in Korea around Mt. Paektu under the guidance of the great leader
Kim Il Sung
.
Describing his birth as a great fortune of Korea, the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters praised
Kim Jong Il
as the "Shining Star of the Paektu", representing their ardent wish for him to become a lodestar lighting the road of Korea in the future. And they wrote letters on trees around Mt. Paektu and in other places they went, heralding his birth.

With the ardent desire and expectation of the nation,
Kim Jong Il
, the Shining Star of the Paektu, added glory to Korea.
With a great pledge to honour Korea he wrote the history of miracles and changes with his great revolutionary practice. Burning himself with the sacred mission for the country and nation and for the times and revolution, he led the struggle for defending socialism to victory under the banner of Songun(military-first) politics.
The proud course of this country convinces us deeply of the great fortune of being led by the peerlessly great man.
As we have been blessed with the leaders and generals generation after generation since the historic day, it is possible for us to witness the glorious yesterday and today and the bright future of the country.
That's why the Korean people grandly celebrate February 16, the birthday of
Kim Jong Il
, as the Day of the Shining Star.
