Six years has passed since the Pyongyang Old People's Home was built thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on the protection of the aged.
The Pyongyang Old People's Home, a traditional building of Korea, is on the bank of the picturesque River Taedong.
It has all conditions and environment needed for health of the old people and their material and cultural life. There are not only public and medical service facilities including the barber's, beauty parlour, bathroom and clinic but also facilities for cultural and emotional life and physical training such as the cinema, library, fitness room and recreation hall. There are also a kitchen garden and a greenhouse for the health-seekers to work as temperately as to improve their appetite.
Every point of the home is suitable to the physical and mental qualities of the health-seekers.
Good afforestation outside shows unique scenery according to seasons. The compound of the home is covered with full-blown flowers. It is also conspicuous with apples, jujubes, persimmons and grapes hanging heavily on hundreds of fruit trees of all species.
The old people's home is provided with foodstuffs, medicines and clothes according to the state measures.
The health-seekers are supplied with all kinds of tonics as well as foods according to nutrition analysis. The special hospitals take charge of the general medical checkup for the health-seekers.
The song "Let the Days Go by" is the most favourite of the health-seekers.
In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea similar old people's homes have been built in all provinces.
