Mt. Myohyang is singular and magnificent. It is widely known as one of the six celebrated mountains of Korea and as one of the eight famous scenes of Korea.
From the early 11th century it was called so in the meaning that it is a beautiful mountain with singular geographical features and giving off fragrance.
The scenic Mt. Myohyang covers a wide area of 375 square kilometres with its main Piro Peak bordering on North and South Phyongan and Jagang Provinces. It is 1,909 metres above the sea level.
Mt. Myohyang presents a superb view, as the magnificent peaks and queer rocks, deep valleys and sheer cliffs, crystal-clear water and many waterfalls, thick forests and sweet fragrance of flowers, thick foliage giving cool shade in summer, beautiful maple trees in autumn and snowscape in winter are in good harmony with the chirping of birds and murmurs of streams.
In Mt. Myohyang there are about 1,200 species of plants and over 290 species of animals.
Mt. Myohyang wonderfully built into a tourist and mountaineering resort has the Myohyangsan History Museum and many establishments for tourists and campers such as the mountaineering camp, camping area, hotel, mineral spring resort and pavilion for relaxation.
It also has the International Friendship Exhibition House in good harmony with the beautiful natural surroundings. Displayed in the house are gifts presented to the great leaders
Kim Il Sung
and
Kim Jong Il
, the anti-Japanese war heroine
Kim Jong Suk
and the respected
Kim Jong Un
by heads of party and state and figures of various stripes in different countries. Mt. Myohyang came to be more widely known as it has the International Friendship Exhibition House, a treasure house in praise of the great persons, evoking admiration of all visitors.
