June is a very important farming season in a year.
In June there are two of 24 seasonal divisions of the year: Mangjong and Haji .
Mangjong , which means the season of barley harvest and rice-planting, falls on June 5 this year.
Haji is the summer solstice, which falls on June 21 this year.
From olden times, there is a saying that a crop should be planted before Haji and, if not, it is impossible to reap it.
It is because it is impossible to increase the yield of the crop as the time of sunshine begins to get shorter after Haji .
So, peasants hurried up with their work to finish the sowing and rice-planting without fail before Haji .
The folk foods in this season include rice-cake mixed with mugwort and other rice-cakes, honeyed juice mixed with cheery, etc.
In this season, the Koreans played such folk games as swinging, masque play and pangchon play (singing and dancing on a river bank).
