An online congress of the Red Cross Society of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was held between June 8 and 9.
Attending the congress were members of the Central Committee of the Red Cross Society of the DPRK and relevant officials across the country.
The report of the Central Committee on its work between 2017 and 2020 was delivered.
The report noted that the society achieved successes by conducting its work with the stress put on building safer dwelling areas according to the long-term targets clarified in the strategic plan till 2020, and continued:
The areas with the greatest risk of natural disasters were designated for the overall development plan projects, and stage-by-stage targets were hit in cooperation with the local government organs; the society achieved a remarkable success in taking countermeasures against natural disasters, laying its legal foundations, and building up its information function and its capacity for sustainable development.
The society promoted exchanges and cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.
We should defend and glorify the imperishable exploits performed by the peerlessly great men, and further develop our Red Cross Society to be a reliable auxiliary organization of the government of the DPRK.
The report stressed that all the participants should orient their work to serving the people with devotion and thus perform their responsibilities and roles in promoting the people’s health and welfare and providing them with an environment for a happier and more cultured life.
The congress adopted a strategy till 2030, the orientation of sector-specific work and its amended and supplemented Rules, and elected a new leadership body.
