History and Tradition of the Relations of Friendship Forged between the DPRK and Algeria across Continent

September 25 marks the 63 rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Democratic People’s Republic of Algeria.
As we greet this day, we are looking back again on the history and tradition of the friendly relations with Algeria.
Since 1954, Algerian people waged a vigorous armed struggle against colonial rule. On September 18, 1958, they declared the establishment of the provisional government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Algeria.
On September 25, 1958, only a week since then, great President Kim Il Sung took measures to establish diplomatic relations with Algeria, being the first to recognize the provisional government of the country.
President Kim Il Sung rendered both material and moral support to Algerian people in their struggle for full independence of the country. After Algeria achieved full independence in July 1962, he saw to it that we give active support and encouragement to the Algerian government and people in their efforts to build a new society, thus providing the solid foundation and tradition of the friendly relations.
Also, in May 1975, he paid an official friendly visit to Algeria, a far-off country across the continent, laying a springboard for developing the relations between the two countries to a higher stage and greatly encouraging the Algerian government and people in their struggle for independence against imperialism.
During the last 60-year-long period, the DPRK and Algeria have continued to strengthen and develop the bilateral relations from the principles of independence, friendship, non-interference into internal affairs, mutual benefit and equality.
Algerian people have wholeheartedly supported our people in their righteous struggle for the socialist construction and the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
We will make active efforts to expand and develop the historical and traditional relations of friendship between the DPRK and Algeria provided by our preceding leaders, as required by the new era and in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.
