U.S. Double Dealing Behavior Hinders Resolution of Middle East Crisis

Date: 26/04/2024 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

Some time ago, a professor of San Francisco University and foreign-policy columnist for The Nation revealed the double dealing behavior of the U.S. authorities with regard to the Hamas-Israel conflict in following terms:

On March 25, the UNSC adopted resolution 2728, calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the remaining period of Ramadan.

The U.S. authorities had no intention to allow UN to put pressure on Israel to accept a ceasefire, but this time they approved the resolution. There is an important political reason in this.

The U.S. is one of the ten countries that vetoed the draft resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza Strip at the UNGA, and this isolated the U.S. in the international community with criticism running high in and out the U.S.

According to the opinion poll, most of the Americans supported establishing ceasefire in Gaza Strip. This indicates that the U.S. disturbing policy in the UN is casting shadow over the prospect for re-election of the current president.

The U.S. authorities are now trying to create an impression as if they stand in favor of the UN in its effort to put an end to the combat actions in the Gaza Strip. But they have ultimate goal.

Soon after the adoption of the UNSC resolution 2728, the U.S. authorities declared that the adoption will not impact arms sale and transfer to Israel. “Washington Post” reported that the U.S. has approved the provision of missiles, fighters, etc., worth several billions of US$ to Israel to ensure that it continues the war.

All this proves that the current U.S. authorities use the adoption of the UNSC resolution to show the American voters that they are supportive of ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, they make it impossible for the UN to implement the resolution while providing Israel with the means of violating the resolution.

Today’s reality where the U.S. authorities are arming the Israeli combatants will be remembered as a typical example that shows the wanton destruction of the “rules-based international order” chanted by the U.S.
