In recent years, streets in the capital city of Pyongyang have been laid out in fresh forms and modern houses, public buildings, cultural and welfare facilities and other structures have mushroomed in larger numbers, changing its appearance beyond recognition.

Changjon Street was built in the Mansudae area in Juche 101 (2012). Since then, several streets have newly been built for the past ten years, clearly showing the development of the capital city.

The completion of Unha Scientists Street in 2013 facelifted the scenery on the outskirts of Pyongyang. And a harmonious combination of 53-storey and other high-rise apartment buildings and many commercial outlets built in Mirae Scientists Street on the banks of the Taedong River added more beauty to the landscape of the area.

Ryomyong Street, an energy-saving and green street, sprang up in the city in 2017.

Along with these new streets, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, Munsu Water Park, Rungna People’s Pleasure Ground, Natural History Museum, Okryu Children’s Hospital, Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital and other structures conducive to promoting the people’s cultural and leisure activities and their health have gone up.

All the structures in the city boast of their peculiar architectural beauty: The Rungna Dolphinarium in the form of a dolphin, the Sci-Tech Complex in the shape of an electron orbit and atom, the Ryugyong Health Complex with the wavy roof to go well with the scenery of the Taedong River, and the apartment houses for lecturers of Kim Chaek University of Technology which look like two sailing boats on the river.

All of them are associated with the painstaking efforts of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who has devoted himself to turning the capital city into a sacred revolutionary city and a majestic and picturesque city.

Inspecting the construction site of Ryomyong Street in March 2016, he stressed the need to introduce zero-energy and green architectural technologies so as to build it into a street which reflects the future of the Juche-oriented architecture, and specified tasks and ways to this end. At the construction site of a people’s pleasure ground on Rungna Island, he personally drew a picture helpful to its designing.

In his speech delivered at the ground-breaking ceremony of the project for building 10 000 flats in Pyongyang in March 2021, he ardently called on the participants to fight with vigour for the future of our more beautiful and magnificent capital, for our parents, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters who would create and enjoy there a new, more civilized life to their heart’s content, and for the brilliant implementation of the decisions of the Eighth Party Congress.

The construction of 10 000 flats in the areas of Songsin and Songhwa and a residential district of terraced apartment buildings on the bank of the Pothong River are now in full swing, presenting their imposing shapes as another epitome of the new appearance of Pyongyang.

According to the grand plan for the capital city construction unfolded by the Workers’ Party of Korea, Pyongyang changes its appearance into a more magnificent and beautiful city as the days go by.
