The Unha Breed-Fish Farm under the Ministry of Fisheries in the capital Pyongyang is producing a lot of fry every year.
Last year it introduced labour- and water-saving and other scientific fish farming methods, making a success in the fry production.
The farm confirmed the standard figure of water quality for fish farming and established a scientific method of water control for every kind of fish. It set up air suppliers at the ponds and increased the amount of dissolved oxygen there to raise the weight increment and living rate of the fry even in a small area. It also built a Hermetia illucens-feeding ground and secured the protein-rich feed source and thus doubled the production of fry as against before while saving the production costs.
As a result, the farm produced hundreds of thousands of fry such as carp, Ryongjong fish (mirror carp) and silver carp and stocked the Taedong and Pothong Rivers with them last year.
This year it has set a high target to complete the methods of nutrition administration of fish of every kind and of breeding fish of new varieties in a scientific way.
Now the officials and employees of the farm have introduced the compound microbial feed additives into production in close contact with the Central Fish Farming Institute and direct great efforts to solving the problem of feed for the early days of the fry with plankton.
Technical assistant Ri Hyo Jin says:
"Basing ourselves on the successes and experiences gained last year, we are going to produce more fry by dint of science and technology and send them to the fish farming units this year, too."
They are working hard to put the fish farming on a highly scientific basis according to the decisions adopted at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
