In April this year, the inauguration ceremony of Songhwa Street took place with splendour in the capital city of Pyongyang and ordinary working people moved into new homes given to them by the country free of charge.

The street built in the Songsin and Songhwa districts according to the plan for 2021, the first year of the five-year plan for the capital city construction which had been set forth at the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, incorporates the painstaking efforts the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who has devoted himself to his people.

General Secretary Kim Jong Un of the WPK, at the historic Eighth Party Congress held in January last year, advanced the task of building 10 000 flats every year by concentrating efforts on the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang.

A short time later after the congress, he convened the Second Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK to solemnly clarify once again the unshakable resolve of the Party Central Committee to build 10 000 flats in the city without fail under any condition and environment and to issue an order in his capacity as President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to this end.

At the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of 10 000 flats in Pyongyang held on March 23 last year, he stressed that the large-scale operation for building flats unfolded by the Party and the state is not something for pursuing any economic profits; it is an ennobling undertaking to turn the assets of the state and the fruits of creative labour of the working masses thoroughly into their benefits.

Saying that nothing is more worthwhile and honourable and happier than to unhesitatingly dedicate sweat and passion to building an ideal street which will be a dear cradle for nobody else but the Korean people who are the best and greatest in the world, he went over one document after another related to the construction of 10 000 flats although he was busy dealing with a lot of state affairs and ensured that problems arising in the construction were solved on a priority basis.

He gave guidance to more than 1 000 designs for flats.

He made sure that structures incorporating plastic arts and artistic technique and perfect in terms of interaction, connectivity and practicality are ensured at a high level in a distinctive style and devoted his heart and soul to providing the people with the best things, showing close concern for the furnishings and doors for each house. Thanks to his great ambition, a new construction speed, a legendary tale of construction, was created in building Songhwa Street.

During his inspection tour of the construction site of 10 000 flats in the Songsin and Songhwa districts nearing its completion in March this year, he acquainted himself in detail about the construction and expressed satisfaction over the spectacular view of the street, saying that the Party’s idea on architectural beauty calling for thoroughly embodying the Juche character, national identity and modernity has correctly been carried out. He then noted with great satisfaction that we would soon see the people cutting a ribbon themselves and moving into new houses and that his another wish would come true, calling for the full completion of the housing construction by the Day of the Sun (birthday of President Kim Il Sung ).

As seen above, Kim Jong Un ’s painstaking efforts of devoted service for the people made it possible to build in a matter of a year skyscrapers and other high-rise apartment buildings of various styles including the eighty-storey one of modern and distinctive shape, and public health, educational and welfare service facilities which have been laid out for the convenience of residents, as well as several parks, overhead bridge and decorative structures of distinctive styles, which have formed a good artistic harmony with the residential areas in the Songsin and Songhwa districts covering 56 hectares.

Kim Jong Un attended the inauguration ceremony of the new street and warmly waved back to Pyongyang citizens, wishing them happiness in the new street and new houses.

The new street is an epitome of the DPRK where a new age of dynamism for the comprehensive prosperity and development of Korean-style socialism is being ushered in and brilliant fruition of Kim Jong Un ’s devoted service for his people.
