May 15, 2022 is a significant day that marks 48 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Nepal.

On this day, we are looking back upon the immortal feats performed by great Comrade Kim Il Sung in his external activities that permeate every chronicle of the history of friendly relations between the two countries.

Great Comrade Kim Il Sung personally sent his special envoy to Nepal to discuss issues on developing the relations between the two countries as required by the new era. This has started a new history of development of bilateral relations.

Since then, the two countries have actively exchanged and cooperated in several fields. This has led to the establishment of trade and consular relations in July 1969 and diplomatic relations on May 15, 1974.

President Kim Il Sung attached great importance to the development of relations between the two countries even after the establishment of the diplomatic relations.

He met with Kirti Nidhi Bistha, the former President of Nepal, when he visited our country in May 1976 and shared experiences gained by our people in their socialist construction. President Kim Il Sung sent message of congratulations to him when he was appointed again as Prime Minister of Nepal after he returned to his country.

Since then, the two countries have exchanged high-level delegations and increased economic trade activities more actively, and the bilateral relations have been expanded and developed into various fields of politics, economy and culture.

In the 1990s alone, President Kim Il Sung met with the General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), Chairman of Nepal Workers & Peasants’ Party, General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist), President of Nepal Journalists Association and other personages respectively, and wisely led the bilateral relations to be expanded and developed into various fields.

President Kim Il Sung met with the delegation led by the Chairman of the Central Committee of Nepali Congress in November 1992 and had a long talk with him. During the talk, he was highly appreciative of their struggle for the victory of Democratic revolution in Nepal and gave them valuable teachings for the development of friendly relations between the two countries.

Therefore, Chairman of the Central Committee of Nepali Congress, after his return home, opened his heart by saying that the President Kim Il Sung is an outstanding leader who made a right appraisal for the development of bilateral relations with his profound analysis of and judgment on world situation.

Many political and social personages in Nepal are still praising highly of President Kim Il Sung as a great leader who performed immortal exploits for the cause of global independence and as an eternal friend of the Nepalese people who provided a firm foundation for the development of friendly relations between the DPRK and Nepal.

The relations of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and Nepal will continue to consolidate and develop by concerted efforts of the two peoples.
