The mausoleum of the 25th king of Koryo has recently been unearthed in Haeson-ri, Kaesong City.
The mausoleum was discovered 1.2km southwest of the seat of Haeson-ri in Kaesong City.
It is divided into four sections by three terraced granite embankments.
There are tomb clusters furnished with stone handrail facilities and a pair of stone posts in front of a tomb in section No. 1 on the highest place, while sections No. 2 and 3 which are lowered stage by stage has a stone image respectively. There is an altar area in section No. 4.
The tomb chamber with well-trimmed stone is 365cm long from south to north, 300cm wide from east to west and 235cm in height.
There is a hole on the eastern wall of the tomb chamber through which the “spirit” is to go in and out, the kind of which can be seen in some couple tombs, and pieces of murals which had been painted on the ceiling and walls of the grave were discovered on the floor.
And part of okchaek recording the writing in praise of a king or queen’s high moral repute when a eulogistic posthumous title was given to them in the feudal period, gilded ironware and other relics were found there.
The DPRK Archaeology Society recognized in unison that the newly discovered tomb belongs to a mausoleum-grade grave which was made in the 14th century in the view of its building style, scale and relics, and that as the tomb of Princess Anphyong (unearthed in 1979), wife of King Kyonghyo, is 250-odd metres east of the grave and as Sinjungdonggukyojisungnam (Revised Handbook of Korean Geography) and other documents tell that the Mausoleum of King Kyonghyo is located over four kilometres west of the Kaesong region, the tomb can be seen as a mausoleum of the 25th king (1236–1308) of Koryo.
