Provinces, cities and counties in the DPRK are planting many bamboo-willows.
As a close-planting tree, the bamboo-willow is of high productivity. The cellulose content of the wood is over 80% and it is high in calorific value, thus it is used as a raw material for paper, fuel and timber for plywood and furniture. Besides, the tree is of high value in protecting ecological environment as it can be planted as street, garden and windbreak forest tree.
Taedong County in South Phyongan Province mapped out an annual plan and accordingly it built a parent tree nursery. Now it is planting large numbers of bamboo-willows in right places including the surroundings of rivers and streams and waterway banks. The county planted over 6.4 million bamboo-willows from spring last year to spring this year.
More and more regions and units are planting bamboo-willows extensively including Orang County and Hoeryong City in North Hamgyong Province and the Yangso Cooperative Farm in Ryongchon County, North Phyongan Province.
