One February evening this year, a student was taken to Kim Man Yu Hospital. The patient, who was suffering from a sudden illness, was Jo Kwon Ik, a student at Pyongyang Middle School for Orphans. He had been to Kim Chol Ju University of Education to register himself for the exam for entrance to the university. Upon hearing this news, Kim Un, headmistress of the school, made her way to the hospital.
The headmistress felt uneasy to see her student, who had often said that he would become an excellent teacher.
Shortly afterwards, she earnestly requested the medical workers: “I’m the student’s mother. Please help my son realize his dream.”
The medical workers said to her: “How could he be your son only? We all are his parents, and we will do all our best.”
They buckled down to intensive treatment, and their sincere devotion helped him pass a critical moment and recover his health.
The following morning the headmistress, who helped Kwon Ik going to the university, was surprised to see officials of the university waiting for him at the entrance.
The officials provided him with waistband and padded trousers least he feel cold, and did not leave him alone even for a moment for fear of his illness.
When the day’s exam was over, they took him to the hospital by car.
This was repeated during the period of exam.
Thanks to the warm love and human feelings of many people, Kwon Ik successfully sat the exam.
Even after the exam was over, officials of the university visited Kwon Ik in hospital to give him tonics; and medical workers and patients in his sickroom and their family members also prepared special foods and school things for his study.
When the headmistress expressed gratitude to them, they unanimously said: We are all his parents, too.
Jo was found among new students in April.
