The friendly relations between our country and Uganda, formed on the road of independence against imperialism, are now recording 50-year-long history.

During the prolonged period of half a century since the two countries formed diplomatic ties on August 2, 1972, the historic and traditional bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation have been invariably carried on. This is unthinkable apart from the noble sense of internationalist obligation of President Kim Il Sung , the lodestar of liberation of mankind .

In September 1969, World Conference of Journalists Against the U.S. was held in Pyongyang. At that time, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the incumbent President of Uganda, was studying at a foreign University and he participated in the conference as a representative of Uganda. During the conference, he was deeply moved upon hearing the speech made by President Kim Il Sung .

Afterwards, President Kim Il Sung warmly welcomed him who visited our country in April 1987 after he became the president and said that the friendship between the peoples of the two countries is a friendship between revolutionary peoples who maintain the anti-imperialist and independent stand. He also extended active encouragement to the people of Uganda in their efforts to reject domination and build an independent national economy.

He said that the people of newly independent countries should build an independent national economy in order to consolidate the national independence. He said that Uganda, which has a favorable environment for farming, should develop farming first and then industry on the basis of agriculture. He even taught in detail relevant means and ways for their implementation.

President Museveni visited Pyongyang again in May 1990 and April 1992. President Kim Il Sung extended warm welcome to him and gave clear answers to the problems arising in the building of a new society in Uganda.

President Museveni was captivated by the noble sense of internationalist obligation and boundless magnanimity of President Kim Il Sung , and highly appreciated his material and moral support as a living example of internationalist cooperation.

The friendly relations between the DPRK and Uganda are further strengthened and developed in accordance with the desire of the two peoples and the demand of the new century, and the immortal achievements of President Kim Il Sung recorded in the history of development of friendly relations between the DPRK and Uganda will be immortal for centuries to come.

Today, the Ugandan government and people are directing great efforts for achieving the country’s development on their own.

Especially, they have increased the agricultural productivity by pushing ahead with the plan of setting an example for rural development for solving the food shortage and have realized integration of the African market and revitalization of trade, thus giving impetus to ensuring the external environment favorable for the economic development of the country.

We actively support the Ugandan people in their struggle to achieve independent development and will make continued efforts to expand and develop the relations between the two countries across various fields.
