A weekly and daily nursery is in Mirae-dong on Mirae Scientists Street, Phyongchon District, Pyongyang.
The nursery, inaugurated in Juche 104 (2015) together with the street, covers an area of over 3 000m 2 . It has over 20 children’s rooms, each equipped with spaces for education and sleeping, dressing room, washroom and others, as well as rooms for intellectual playing and physical exercise, a swimming pool and a playground.
Headmistress Kim Hye Suk said: Our nursery takes care of children aged between seven months and five years. As most of children’s parents are scientists, researchers and teachers, the nursery has weekly and daily courses.
When they arrive at the nursery every morning, children undergo health and hygienic check by the headmistress and then by the assistant doctor and the nurses in charge of them.
According to the national system of nursing and upbringing children, the nursery has set times for children to have meals, eat snacks, take a nap and play.
All the daily routine, carried out with singing and dancing according to the children’s ages and psychological features, make them spend time without feeling boring.
Children over two years old learn the way of tooth brushing, mouth rinsing, hand washing; those who are intelligent learn how to use an abacus and how to play paduk (go in English) and the electronic organ.
The state benefits of providing children with dairy products every day and supplying a variety of vegetables, condiments, confectionery, nutritive rice powder, eggs and fish also reach the nursery.
Thanks to the state’s care and the nurses’ sincerity, most of the children in the nursery exceed state standards in weight and height, said the assistant doctor.
What is distinctive in the nursery’s appearance is its green roof with an area of over 1 000m 2 .
On the roof, the nursery has created not only flowerbeds but also a catfish pond and a vegetable plot, producing catfish and vegetables including tomato, lettuce and crown daisy to regularly provide the children with them and to lay its material foundations with the surplus ones.
The slogan “We Are Happy!” hanging in different parts of the nursery reflects the bright appearance of the children, who are growing healthily thanks to the care of the Workers’ Party of Korea, one of whose policies is affection for the coming generations, for the future.
