The Academy of Forest Science is putting effort to research for creating useful forest resources.
It has carried out a long-term research work on over 50 species of trees for timber production and fruit trees and mapped out hundreds of mathematical modules for evaluating in high accuracy the productivity and value of each tree with certain age and in any soil conditions.
Meanwhile, it has also established a useful method of categorizing the kinds of forest land and made a map of categorization of the kinds of forest land of vase areas.
Based on it, the academy has developed a system of aiding the adoption of decision for creating “gold mountains,” conducive to covering all the mountains in the country with useful trees appropriate to each region and plot, and to estimating their prospective economic effectiveness
Professor and PhD Sim Yong Nam of the academy said, “The system makes it possible to remarkably reduce the time and labour consumed for learning about the forest situation in a certain region in the past while raising its accuracy, and plant and tender more trees of high economic effectiveness according to the specific reality and characteristics of the relevant region.”
Now the academy is accelerating the work aimed at introducing the already-achieved success into creation and protection of forests in an effective way.
